Hi,

I have stumbled on a scotch ale recipe in Craft Beer & Brewing magazine.
It’s a big beer with an ABV of 13%.
The recipe calls for a 6 to 12 months aging in keg and the beer is aged on whole hops all that time.
I don’t have easy access to whole hop cones and I was wondering if pellet hops could be used for aging beer in barrel.
I haven’t found any information on the hop forms and their impact on aging.
Does anyone have an idea?

Yes you can use pellet hops. According to this you should use one fifth the amount of pellet hops... Whole Hops Vs Pellet Hops Conversion Calculator (Both Ways) - Learning to Homebrew
That’s referring to wet (fresh) whole hops, not dried whole cones 5 : 1ratio for fresh wet hops to pellets. Dried whole cone hops can replace pellets pretty much 1:1. However some folks claim you should increase your whole cones by 10% to be comparable to pellets due to extraction rates.
