I started my first batch of mead 10 days ago, the recipe called for 10.5 pounds of honey for a 3 gallon batch. I added the must to a fermentation bucket and put the rest of the water in, instead of filling the bucket to the 3 gallon mark. The total volume in the bucket is close to 4 gallons. This doesn’t seem like enough honey for 4 gallons of mead. Do you think this is enough honey for 4 gallons? And would adding some brown sugar to it right now be a crazy idea? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The recipe called for orange slices along with some spices.

Thanks

Brown sugar would royally mess up the flavor.

2.6 lbs/gallon will give you a good mead.
