Hi
Got too excited when starting my first homebrew kit and when instruction said add ingredients. I added yeast to enhancer and extract. Rather than sprinkling yeast at the end. Will this be ok or is it ruined already

Hmmm, what else do we need to tell a first-time brewer to do?

  • If you have a refractometer or a hydrometer, take a reading BEFORE adding yeast (and write it down)!
  • If you don't have either of those tools, then as long as you get your final volume correct (presumably via adding top-off water), you should be close enough to what the recipe-sheet predicts.
  • If you have a cool basement, that'd be the best place to put your fermenter.
  • Do not open the fermenter lid to peek at it! Leave it alone for at least 2 weeks!
  • If you are bottling, you will need some sugar to get your beer bottles to carbonate. If you added your kit's bottling sugar to the boil in all the excitement, don't sweat it, but do head to this link, and figure out how much more sugar you need! Priming Sugar Calculator (but don't add that until you are ready to bottle!)
  • If you are bottling with a hand-held capper, make sure that the bottles you have (assuming you've been saving store-bought beer bottles) work with your capper before you start bottling the whole batch!
  • Sign up for BrewersFriend.com, very nice recipe editor, and lotsa handy calculators.
