Dont research, but sounds like a good idea. You would like it here madKing you don't have to drive to every liquor store just one or two of them. It is getting so weird here people are moving in from everywhere. Heroin Junkies shooting up on our paths and trails crazies on our sixteenth Street Mall. I wonder where I'm living

By "all of them nearby" I meant two lol.. The bigger package stores in georgia tend to have good beer selections.. I struck out at the first one, and found 2 oktoberfests at the second one (not bad considering its out of season)

Lol....i love the south. Closest I ever got to Georgia was Tallahassee

When you mentioned spaten it made me think of what a beautiful time of year to have a beer at the spatenhaus in Munich.

For $50 for the speakers and $12 for the amp this little setup rocks.

Nice setup! I love old hifi too... I've got a pair of JBL 4311's and a NAD 3020A from the 70s that sounds better than most stuff made since then. Including some Real studio monitors. And the phono pre on that NAD is exceptional! Makes vinyl worthwhile.

That system is awesome. I would guess sweet bass. I was just reading today an article by CNET Steve Guttenberg, they used to make stuff based on how it sounded, its musicality. Now it's...does it have HDMI, does it have Blu-ray , does it have Bluetooth, by the time they grease all those vendors pockets for the rights to the names, advertising, etc and all the other junk what's left for the sound. I'm not sure I want to go there with speakers yet. I haven't heard really nice speakers that are vintage. My b&w cm4s are from 04 i think. The v202s are 91-93. The newer ones definitely sound better but they are also 7 times up the chain. Welcome thoughts.

Not quite vintage, but I've held onto a pair of DCM KX10 Series II Speakers and the same Sony 150-watt stereo amp that I bought with it, that I've had since 9th grade that still rock (~ 20 yrs ago)! Wife has tried numerous (unsuccessful) attempts to get rid of them. Not happening.

Having a real ale 4-squared

Picked up some good stuff from newish brewery in McKinney that needs to go into the fridge, plus some scotch of course.

That is a cool story. I didn't have any brains in 9th grade.

Man I'm telling you guys that little amp and speakers sound good. That sucker could tune a station in Australia. I'm on the hunt now. I want something big and heavy.

What kind of new stuff are you audio junkies comparing against? If it is the stuff at one of the chain stores yes that is for home theater not musical enjoyment.

Im comparing a 12 dollar goodwill amp to a 130 watt per channel amp from rotel with huge onkyo integrated as pre amp. Im also comparing two recent trips to high end stuff listening sessions.

My conclusion is that good gear is good, bad gear is bad (talking sound, features are diff. discussion)The 12 dollar amp is not as good in this match, but man its close. And its more different then one better or worse. But in the case of amps i use the triangle test idea. Im certain speakers are more key than power at some point in tri. tests. I wonder if a 130 watt (lets say) vintage amp is a considerable replacement to my amp or even a 1000 dollar amp or so in a blind listening test with same equipment. Which is huge considering the money savings. Check this beast out recently clocked at 270 watts per channel. Look at its guts. Yeah this one is expensive but these things were plentiful they gotta be out there. Just saying. At some point one isn't better then the other just different. I like the newer speakers that i have heard, but the older ones are values. I slowly gave away all my old speakers as i replaced them with b & w newer and older.

Sorry to long and confusing. In a listening room blindfolded your ears will jump with cheap speaker to 2000 dollar speaker comparison; more so than 600 dollar amp to 2000 dollar amp, given a few considerations given to 600 dollar amp imo. In my experience both are needed for good sound.

Not confusing at all. When I was shoppng for a sound system 5 years ago I was in the specialty store and the owner was waiting for another customer to arrive with some records so they could test out a few new product arrivals. The Martin Logans are bad ass even being fed by a cheap source amp/reciever. :fro:

Uh oh, electrostatics!?
Yeah, those are pretty cool. :rockin:
Are the Martins self powered? Electrostatics can be very difficult to drive, not to mention they can be very picky about placement.

Near-Field, the Rodgers LS3/5A driven by Mcintosh 30s with B&W subs are sublime. :D I agree that the best speakers for standard music listening are the ones that sound... Musical! I've got access to a pair of Dunlavy SC-VI, and they are absolutely fantastical speakers. There are few systems with more detail or a better soundstage. BUT! Sometimes... They're almost TOO good! Any small flaw that would be glossed over in most other systems comes through loud and clear... But wow, a good recording at 24/96 is quite the experience.

Anyway, with all that said, I still come back to my JBLs with the 30w/ch NAD for day to day listening. They're just enjoyable!

Wait... Which forum is this again? :drunk: :D

Yea electrostatic blew me away never knew they existed (until that day). I think they are self powered if not they should be when you are spending that much so the sound is like a live concert. :mug:
