Hello,

I am brewing a Brooklyn Sorachi Ace clone, the recipe is for 5 Gal but I scaled it down to 1 Gal by dividing everything by 5.

It was looking great but then it came time to add the Dry Hops, the recipe calls for 2oz but I forgot to scale it down so I added 2oz to the 1 Gal batch where as that amount is supposed to be for 5 Gal!!

There is a LOT of hop matter floating in the fermenter, will this ruin my beer? Should I take it out earlier or sill wait for the full 5 days?

Thanks!

If it was my beer, I would probably pull it (and package if it's ready) after 2 days. What kind of hop is it?

I usually dry hop with more than double that amount. Don't sweat it.

It will be fine. I am usually adding like 10-12 oz dry hop for 5 gallons all the time. No worries once it drops.

I think that the timing is more on allowing the hop debris to compact on the bottom. Cold crashing will help speed this. If you package too soon you will have hop soup.

They will drop quicker in one gallon of beer since the distance that the hops have to travel to get to the bottom of the fermenter is less. What you may experience that you didn't account for is more beer loss than you expect due to absorption.

I don't think distance has anything to do with the length of time that it takes hop debris and proteins etc. To drop out of solution. In my 5 gallon batches, sometimes it only takes a day or two after fermentation slows and others take a week, two, three and one that never cleared.

Okay, but all things being equal, hops WILL drop out faster in a smaller vessel since they have less distance to travel.

Unless they are brewing in a cylinder that is very narrow and very tall... :-D

When I used to ferment in glass carboys, I could definitely see the dry hop material drop over the course of days.
