Yay, taking a quick trip from los banos to hit up both sara locations today. I think right now I am in Hollister...omw, yay!

Edit: and of course grabbing some bbq at Aptos to wait out traffic this evening.

Finally made it to the Santa Cruz Portal today. So dope! I hadn't realized that it was the original location of Staff of Life. Happy for the SARA crew.

This version was blended from four different wine barrels...one with blackberries, one with cacao nibs, one with vanilla beans and one with simply the base beer. Well, I guess that calls for a change of plans. I'll be at SARA tomorrow at around opening. I really don't the know the area, though, so if any one can recommend a good, nearby place to eat I'd appreciate that.

gah, garlic bread....I knew I was missing something when I ordered my tri tip sandwich the other day...

Oh ****! That's the key that unlocks the magic. Still great food, but that garlic bread for the sandwich really takes things to the extreme.

Really all of this talk and some of y'all still didn't know about the fair bread at Aptos? It literally caused any new coworker to gain 15 lbs once they started working there.

So, first time at the SARA taproom. I got there an hour early so it was nice to find the surrounding area was residential and had a small town feel. Being right by the high-way, I was expecting a rather industrial area.

Had four beers: Appreciation, Full Hands In, Vanilla Joe, and a splash of Transmission Received. All were very solid. Pretty easily the best taproom offering I've had.

Full Hands In was my favorite. It had the largest funk profile, and in my opinion, the most depth without sacrificing balance. Following that was Appreciation. It reminded me of LPF but with the funk taking more of a back seat to the berry flavor. Vanilla Joe and Transmission Received were both quite good, with preference to Vanilla Joe for drinkability, but without any barrel character to add dimension I was hoping for more deep roast flavors.

Got three bottles of Adjunct Brackish because I love blackberries in beer. I've never liked vanilla in wild ales, though, so we'll see if SARA is the exception.

Oh, and the atmosphere at the taproom was great. It was quiet and I liked the decor. Every one there seemed like good people.
