I have a Lemongrass Wheat Ale and a Hefeweizen that use the same yeast strain. Which beer should I brew first if I want to reuse the yeast cake in order to minimize the chance for off-flavors? I'm poor and dont want to buy another yeast vial, and I dont wash yeast or make starters.

I haven't had much experience reusing a yeast cake, but from what I gather you want to brew the lighter of the two first. That being said I'm not sure which of the two you said should ferment first.

Do you have the recipes for them? That may help to figure it out.

I'd say do the hefeweizen first, that way you don't end up with lemongrass in it. Really, though, I'm not sure that it would matter that much. Good Luck!

Yeah, the whole Lighter before Darker thing is good, but you have to consider specific flavors. You certainly do not want lemongrass flavors in a hef, unless you do. So do the hef first then the lemongrass... [/2¢]

Agreed.

I think that the lemongrass flavor would be more noticeable in the hefe, than the citrus/corriander in the wheat ale, since lemongrass is pretty strong.
