i am putting together my first recipe, i have done a few Mr Beer bacthes and a couple simple wheat/hefe ones from this forum. I am looking to to put together a 2 gallon batch of an APA/IPA, any feedback would help alot:
Batch size: 2 gallon
Yeast SafeAle - 05
3 lbs of Light DME or 3.3 lbs of Light LME (which is better for a small batch)

1/3 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 60 minute boil
1/3 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 30 minute boil
1/3 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 10 minute boil
or
1/4 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 60 minute boil
1/4 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 40 minute boil
1/4 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 20 minute boil
1/4 oz Cascade or Centennial or Amarillo 10 minute boil

can anyone give some advice on which hop will work best to create a blonde-ish APA type ale?

if you only have 1oz, I'd do 1/3 @60, 15, 0 for the hops. i prefer amarillo of the 3, but any of them would work well. if you're going for an IPA, it definitely needs more hops

Those 3 hops are all great for a citrusy APA. They may be a bit harsh for bittering though. Add them late for flavour/aroma, and use a small amount to bitter if you don't have other hops.
0.25 @ 60
0.25 @ 10 or 15
0.5 @ 5
0.5 @ 0
This is my typical hop schedule for a 2 g batch of my house APA.
Though I use Warrior or Magnum or Galena for the 60 min addition and also dry hop with remaining Cascade/Amarillo.

ok so either the DME or LME, which ever ends up more cost effective, and i can get my hand on pretty much any hop at the local brew shop so i can do warrior and use the cascade etc for aroma near the end of the boil, great thanks

It depends on the aau's of your bittering hops, if you use dme over lme, use 1/3 oz or use your higher alpha's hops for your bittering with dme @ .25 oz. Since all you have is dme or lme i would stick to .25 oz any way because you dont have a lot of body or unfermentables to balance more bitterness.Ive found my lme/dme has a good low finish.Depends on your yeast too, o5 should attenuate pretty well around 1.01 maybe a little less.
