1 oz hops in volume?

I bought bulk pellet hops but I don't have a digital scale yet. I want to brew today so does anyone know another way to measure? I know it won't be exact but it should be close enough. My guess is 1 oz of pellets should be close to 1/4 cup but I would like a better estimate. Thanks. -kevin

Thats what i use when i dont have my scale and have to guess, i fill a 1/4 cup measuring cup for an oz.

No diss to you, but man, I can't think of anything I'd less like to measure by volume instead of weight. The different kinds all have such different sizes of pellet, and there's way too much void space. Bigger unbroken pellets would give you less, while a bunch of smaller chunks might make you overshoot, and getting it right has so much to do with the balance...

But yeah, hope it all went well -- excuse my hand-wringing!

Before I got my scale I used the pie method: spread the pellets out in a circle on a plate, single layer. Cut that in half for a half ounce, half again for quarters, etc. It turned out relatively accurate- at least, I couldn't tell a difference batch to batch. Kyle

Before I got my scale I used to count the pellets to figure 1/2's and 1/4's. Love my scale.

So, would 1/2 ounce of hops be about 1/8th of a cup?

My assumption is that you don't want to use more than one measuring cup, as the different sizes would make the volume vary more (different air space). Measure out ounces with a 1/4 cup then use the pie method mentioned above to split them perhaps?
