Does anyone think we could get a hold of a reputable grain shop and say Fresh Hops ( both which we all could use) and let them know that there will be a huge buy out of a list of ingredients and hops all the same and maby cut us a deal on it? By using a password so they know we are a group of homebrewers all brewing the same batch. Say Home Brew Talk could be the password and we could all get a deal on the recipe in which we are deciding on. Could mean a good deal for us and a good amount of buiss for the shops. We could all agree apon a shop for the grain and then let FH deliver the greens. Just a thought.

You need more background? Just wondering if we could all get a deal on our ingredients for the 777 brew if we used the same grain and hop store. Leting the store profit from all our orders and we profit by all of us buying ingredients and getting the break. Bulk order!

That's actually a pretty good idea. How many people would end up brewing the recipe though? That's what they're gonna want to know...

Look down this thread forum beer4breakfast. This group of brewers is a thinkin its time to plan the anual recipe which we will all brew July 7th of this year (07). So I beleive we have decided on 7 grains and 7 hop additions. Read the post , it'll get u up to speed . Cheers

Not to be a buzzkill, but thinking about it from a business standpoint, they'd likely only do it with some sort of guaranteed quantity. That might mean a deposit in advance, or something like that... Seems logistically difficult for an online group spread out in all corners of the country (or world, for that matter).

Now, if someone is persuasive enough to get it done, then let's do it. :mug:

Welcome to madness B4B. Hey texasgeorge, the reason for this is because we are all in diff parts of this beautifull country. We all order online. Same shop, same discount.

Yes I agree. But I think any shop is going to want a guaranteed amount before cutting their prices (for argument's sake, let's say $750). Do we have enough interest to drum up that kind of business for this project? And how do we guarantee it to the business?

Now I could be waaaay off base and someone will be willing to do it no questions asked... but I just wanted to play Devil's Advocate for a sec..

edit: just read b4b's reply... that's the kind of contingency we have to account for if a shop comes up with something like this.

Anyone know what the turn out was last year? It seems as though we have quite a few willing and interested in doing this.

The recipe poll says 56 people have voted! I do think that would be worth it. My $0.02

Sounds good, now if we all could just agree (pause). I believe its either an APA or IPA. Still not sure yet I think it'll get ironed out soon.

I'll send a message to Forrest at Austin Homebrew......I think he will support us in this venture........

This is a super idea!

I'll let you all know what happens!

We can only account for those of us who can post and are members . So who's to say that guests reading this thread will not call in and take what is reserved for the members of this Forum. We need a way to keep this our's. I'm not greedy or a bastid, just lookin out for the kind.

Maby we could let the designated HBS count for us. ie: Give out the # and just call in and say your a member and looking to brew the 777 batch and they count you. Call in by this deadline to get on the list. That way the shop can give us an estimate on the savings.

Like how much are we talking here for the call --$2 ??. I would be willing to set the 2 aside for the headache. PM the secret word? I like it!!!!

we could all call their local number and we would each take the cost of the call.. or we could always just email them with our names and address and they could account for us that way..

Either way I am starting to get interested in this.. I have yet to brew a beer.. maybe I can wait till July and make this my first.. hmmm

I like the idea, somewhat, but it just depends. My LHBS is only 1/2 mile from my place, and I'm pretty loyal to them. Still, depending on how good of a deal could be worked out, I might be interested.

Where you live b4b? If the difference is wiped out (and more) by shipping, I would rather run down the street and get it early and not wait (and pay) for shipping.

Sorry to be the antagonist, but AHB is like $6 shipping no matter what. Would your LHBS match that? Now it isn't worth it for them, cutting a %deal and lowering shipping. Might want to check the viability of their willingness with these thoughts in mind.

Hmm.. Odd.. Never seen a bunny brew before.. they just kinda hop around and reproduce.. Neither of which seems to help beer... tho I am new.. I could be wrong.. hehe

ps.. just trying to decide what I want to brew with and what other equipment I need first

Considering I burn more than $6 in fuel to get to any "L"HBS (35-55 miles each way), AHB's shipping charge is no big deal. It might be worth while for a supplier, they can mix one large batch of grains, crush and ship. That would cut their handling costs quite a bit. A place like AHB might even be willing to do mini-mash and AG batches.

There probably isn't any real savings to be seen on the hops, though. If I see Dave (Freshops) some time soon, I'll ask him. I have to swing by and drop off coasters for the next beer fest anyway.

We should get a hard count and ask around. 50-60 batches is a couple grand. And it would be interesting to all have exactly the same grains bill.

I agree David, alot of the same grain could bring the cost down for the supplier= saved cost for us . If this would work and it was a significant savings it would be cool to all have the exact same grain and hops.

AHB does beer kits, why not just give them the recipe and have them batch up some brew kits?

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!!!

Add "At a discount price" and I think we have a winner.

:cross:

THe hops being kicked around are certianly not ones I can get locally--even if we can get just the shipping knocked off, I think it's a great idea. For what it's worth, we do these group buys on some of the fishing/boating websites I frequent and it has really worked out well for all parties. You usually need at least 50 people which I bet we can do.

Guess you didn't read all of this thread. You were maybe relying on that omniscience?

:D It just seems like we're trying to make it too complicated. But what do I know... I'm half-in the bag.... brup...
