    Here's My Keezer

I had a single tap Haier kegerator for quite a few years. The compressor decided to quit on me, so I decided to upgrade my draft situation. Here is the result of a lot of planning, and about 2 weeks of work. I have it sitting on a wooden base made of 2x6 boards and 3 inch casters. I...

    What Did I Brew?

What style would you call this? Just put it in the fermentation chamber. 8 lbs Vienna 3 lbs Maris Otter 0.5 lbs Caramunich (40L) 1 oz Hallertau @ 60, 10, 5 WLP029 Closest thing I can find in BeerSmith is Octoberfest/Marzen.

    First Lager, Yeast Starter

So I'm brewing a lager today, a dunkel. Never done one before. I didn't really research the fact that lagers need more cells than ales... whoops. I'm using WLP833. I made a 3 qt. starter on Thursday. It seems I should have made it on Wed. maybe even Tue. I realize that I'm probably...

    No Signs of Fermentation

So, I am doing my first cider. 5 gallons. I decided to use S-04. I bought the cider on Friday, on Saturday morning I poured all 5 gallons into a bucket, added 5 crushed Campden tabs, and placed it in my fermentaion chamber at 61°F. Then 24 hours later on Sunday morning I pitched the yeast...

    Forgot to make a starter...

...and I'm brewing in 12 hours. Oh well. I'm making the starter now. Just a small one to get it rolling. Hopefully it works out okay. WLP029. Shooting for 1.050.

    CO2 Leak?

So yesterday I ran out of CO2. This was pretty surprising to me because I just got a refill 2 kegs ago. The tank before this one lasted for 7 or 8 kegs... Two variables are that I got a new regulator not long after my last CO2 refill. I also started using a (new to me) keg, a Firestone. I...

New to mead. Looking for advice on what to make.

So, I've only tasted two meads in my life. Both commercially bought. One was amazing, one not so much. The one I didn't like was made here in Indiana, and I found that it tasted like a light white wine (I'm not really into wine either), with little to no honey flavor or much other flavor at...

    Stout Recipe Review

Just looking for some assurance/suggestions on this one! This will be my first all grain stout. I almost feels like it's too many different grains, but what the heck right? I want this to be rich and roasty. Grain 11 lbs American 2-row 1 lb Roasted Barley 1 lb Flaked Barley 1 lb...

    Chocolate Belgian Dubbel

Been thinking about this recipe for a while. I did something really similar to this last year and it was great, I liked it a lot. But, that was an extract brew and now I'm doing all grain. Here's what I'm thinking about. 13 lbs Pale Malt 1 lb Aromatic 8 oz Special B 8 oz Chocolate malt...

    Getting down the all-grain process.

So I've done two all grain batches now. The first one I ended up with about 62% total brew-house efficiency and yesterdays brew 61% total according to Beersmith. I know people say it's more important to be consistent, but I'd really like to improve this. I tightened my mill from .039 to .035...

    Don't Do This.

Don't dump spent dry hops and yeast sediment down your garbage disposal. What a nightmare I just endured. I figured out I had clogged up the drain hose for the dishwasher with hop gunk, because the dishwasher was not draining. I had to pull out my dishwasher to remove and clean the drain...

    Sub Honey malt for Melanoidin?

Went to the homebrew shop today and they didn't have Melanoidin. I was told Honey malt is the typical sub for it. I couldn't really find a lot of info saying either yes or no on here. I'm only using 5 oz in a 5.5 gallon batch with several other specialty malts. Am I good to go here or should...

Oh my gosh, another 1st AG thread?

Hey everyone, I finally made the leap to all-grain today. Brewed an IPA, with Chinook and Cascade. Things went fairly well. I did miss my OG by a few points, however. 1.058 instead of 1.062 I had hoped for. I'd like to get a little insight about what I could do better next time to improve...

Pacifica hops, what style to brew?

So I've got some Pacifica hops. 4 oz worth. Never used them before, and have no idea what style the might work well in, or what hops to pair them with. I've read they have citrus and orange characteristics. I thought about maybe using them with some Cascade in a pale ale or IPA. But, that's...

Beer pours fast from the tap...

Alright, so whenever I tap out a glass of my delicious homebrew, the beer seems to pour very quickly and it looks like there is something obstructing the flow that it has to travel around, like a bubble of air. If I close the tap, and then start pouring again, the bubble comes out and the beer...

    Rakau Hops

Any ideas on what could pair well with these hops? Been really wanting to try them and was finally able to order some. I have Centennial, Columbus, Cascade, Nugget, Pacifica, and both the Falconers Flight blends on hand. I want the Rakau to contribute heavily to the flavor and aroma. I was...

    Am I wasting my hops?

I'm curious if perhaps I am using more hops than I really need to. I see so many IPA recipes on here that don't use anywhere near what I use... I typically am using 10 oz for a 6-7% abv IPA. Using less in the past hasn't gotten the flavor and aroma that I want. I really like my hoppy beers...
