Pin mapping for wiring DS18B20 to XLR?

I googled for this, but I couldn't find anything definitive. Is there a convention already in place for systems that use DS18B20's with XLR connectors? I realize I can do whatever I want but if I can follow convention then that would be my preference.

    Water Report Oddness (low everything)

Got my water report in from our mountain house. It comes from a fairly deep well due to the altitude, but I was genuinely surprised at the breakdown. We do have a sediment filter inline but nothing else. Should I just treat it like it's RO water? Is the iron content going to be a...

Anvil FIAK (Ferment in a Kettle)

Product Page Interesting idea, might have to think about this since I feel like the most volatile time is after cooling while transferring to fermenter. Is trub an issue?

    Detachable Panel Mount Suggestions?

My current 2-tier brew stand can be turned on its side, wheeled out of the way, and stored under a grill cover. But I want to be able to detach the control panel, pump and RIMS tube. The pump is easy because I have the mount from Morebeer, and the RIMS can probably just have the guts removed...

    Starsan + Sprayball?

Anyone have any experience running starsan through a sprayball with a pump? I would assume it foams out like crazy, but does that cause you any problems?

    PLCs for beginners?

I have going on 20 years in the software business (ugh, getting old) but none of it is embedded or industrial work. How realistic is it to buy a cheap / used PLC and get it working on my brewing system? Can mere mortals figure these things out?

50A, 3 elements - Interlock two of them?

I am beginning to draw up my plans for a half barrel, 3 vessel, electric RIMS brewhouse. My thinking is that I would have 3 4500w elements in the system, one each in the HLT, BK, and RIMS tube. I would probably want to interlock two of them to prevent firing all three at the same time and...

    Recommendations for half barrel fermenter?

My wishlist: * Enough headspace for a full 15 gallons of wort * Stainless * Sanitary fittings * Pressurizable enough to push through a filter into a keg * Accepts cooling coils on the inside The SS brewtech was at the top of my list, but as I understand it the lid with the coils...

    Cooler MLT Leak Detection

I installed a thermometer in my Igloo 10 gallon MLT and I am iffy about it leaking. Being a software guy, I don't consider something done until it's been verified, so it's killing me that if it's leaking, it's doing so into the insulation and will essentially never be discovered. I probably...

    Cleaning a Blichmann mash tun

    15/15/30 half barrel RIMS?

was playing with a mash calculator and it seems I could still do 15 gallon batches with 15 gallon HLT and Mash Tun. I already own the two 15's so I am stuck with them. would get a 30 for the boil kettle. anyone have any wisdom or experience to share on the matter?

    Seeking feedback on recipe

Here's the recipe: 9 lbs Light DME 0.75 lbs Crystal 120 0.5 lbs American Roasted Barley 0.5 lbs American Chocolate 0.5 oz Warrior (60 min) Nottingham Ale Yeast (or US-05 potentially, haven't decided yet) Trying to figure out how much malt to use for the boil and how much to add at the 15...

    Floaties in my IPA

Cooper's IPA HME, Cooper's LME, Safbrew S-33, Cascade leaf hop tea. It looked kind of like tobacco from a cigarette floating in my beer, it almost entirely moved off and stuck to the side as I racked to the bottling bucket. The beer tasted a little odd but not bad in any way. I was...

    Dry yeast viable cell counts

Per the Safbrew WB-06 PDF: Viable cells at packaging: 6 x 10^9 / gramme So, if that is an 11.5g sachet, then wouldn't that make the pitching cell count 69 billion? I understood that pitching cell count for a typical 5 gallon batch is in the neighborhood of 200 billion. I am pretty sure I...

Coopers Irish Stout HME Kit Question

I have a Coopers Irish Stout Kit I wanted to mix up today, but I just realized that all I have is 3 lbs of Wheat DME for the additional fermentables. Will that combo cause me any problems?

    Fermentation Temp Question

As it happens, I have a room in my house that (under current weather conditions) swings from about 60F to 64F and back on over a 24 hour cycle. As I understand it, this is preferred for certain kinds of ale yeasts (WLP300,380) but what about for others like S-33 and Coopers Ale? Am I risking...

    High-temperature wheat beer yeast suggestions

I am about to do another wheat and I want to find the most appropriate yeast to use for it. I will be fermenting in the low 70's due to my living situation, and last time WLP300 at that temperature left me with a beer that was borderline terrible. I love the clove flavors and body of good...

Hefe Kit in Hand, First Batch on Saturday

So I blew off work and headed to LHBS to pick up a fermenter and a hefeweizen DME/Specialty kit. I ended up with a slightly different kit (they were out) but I still got the WLP300 yeast tube. The only bit a regret I am having is that the shop attendant convinced me that I wouldn't need a...
