    Using Sanke Kegs For Homebrew

Here's a quick video on how to remove and reasemble sanke kegs. Alot of people shy away from using Sanke kegs for their homebrew because they are harder to clean. Yes, cornies are easier to clean and easier to open and close, but I've never had a problem with sanke's. I use both types of kegs...

    Tons of foam after reconnect

I have a kegerator with two taps. Last week I hooked up a new keg to the kegerator to be able to carbonate it. I have one tap on a tower, and one tap coming off the front of the kegerator(it's a converted freezer). I removed the keg that was hooked up to the tower(and almost empty) and...

    Infected batch?

Just took off the lid of my Fermenter to take a gravity reading and noticed a very citrusy/funky smell to the beer. This is only my third batch, but I haven't noticed this before. Is it infected? Or can you only tell when you sample it?

    Best way to age beer

What's the best way to age beer? Ales, not lagers. I have a keg system, so should I keg the beer without carbonation or carbonate it? Should I age it in the fridge or in a cooler(mid 60F range) area?

    Ooops!!!

Don't ask me why, but when I got home today I just had to have a peek at the beer I brewed yesterday. There was some little voice inside my head saying "open it up", so I did. I opened up the bucket and what did I see... the little plastic ring that locks the cap onto the spring water bottle...

    Iodophor Question

I mixed up some iodaphor last weekend, and when I was finished with it I put it in a glass bottle with a airlock on top. I heard that exposure to air will neutralize it. It still has the same brownish colour as it did last weekend. Is it safe to use?

    Porter Yeast

What would you recommend as a good yeast for a porter?

    Kegged my frist batch

I just kegged my first batch yesterday. It was a Coopers Dark Ale kit. I followed the directions pretty much to a "T". Including the addition of white granulated sugar. I'm going to carbonate it slowly over the next week to prevent over-carbonation as well as to age it a bit more. Last night...

Fermenter bucket - Not a airtight seal

I just brewed my second batch today and used a fermenting bucket I picked up from my LHBS. When I pitched my yeast and placed the lid on I gave the bucket a shake to aerate the wort. I noticed that some wort came out of the rim around the bucket, meaning that there's not a very tight seal. I...

    B-Brite - Rinse or Don't Rinse

So I bought some B-Brite cleaner from the homebrew store. They say it works as a cleaner and as a sanitizer after 30 min contact time. This is all I have to use for now until I can get my hands on some iodophor or Star San. My question is: Should you rinse out the b-brite solution with...

Carbonating a keg. Keep it cool or not?

I'm going to be legging my beer but was wondering if I have to keep it cold or not while it's carbonating. If I can leave it outside my kegerator while it carbonates it will leave more room for my other beer. Suggestions?

    Substitute sugar for DME

Am I able to substitute 1kg of sugar for 1kg of DME? Or should I do 1/2kg dextrose and 1/2kg DME?

How to pitch yeast with a extract kit

I brewed my first batch of beer last weekend and am planning on doing my second next weekend. I just wanted to make sure that I am getting everything right. Here's what I did last weekend, according to the semi-vague instructions on the kit: -Boiled 1 gallon of water and added the extract &...

Kegged beer - How long does it last?

Ok, I wanted to get peoples opinions on this: how long will homebrew stay fresh in a keg? I've read on the net that most kegs will last a couple of months tapped with CO2. But on the forums I see guys saying their beer lasts six months or more. What do you think?

Beginner brewer - Should I buy software?

I've just started brewing and have been reading into a couple of the brewing programs out there. "Strangebrew" and "Beertools Pro" to be specific. From someone who is more experienced what would you say? Buy the software to experiment, or wait until I have some more experience under my belt...

16 hours and no airlock activity

So I made my first batch of extract beer yesterday. I tried to follow the instructions of the kit as best I could, however, they were not the best and fairly vague. I'm starting to wonder now if I've screwed up though. It's been 16 hours since I put everything into the primary and there is...

    Aluminium or Stainless?

Ok, so I'm trying to get together all the equipment I need to start brewing all-grain and was wondering: is there any difference between using stainless steel vs. aluminium vessels?

    Newb from Cochester, Ontario

Hey there! So I'm taking my first steps into brewing my own beer at home. I've been doing quite a bit of reading and watching videos on how to get things right before I even try my first batch so I'm starting to get a handle of what has to go on. I've got some of my equipment already...
