What music do you listen to while brewing?

Search around on the boards, it's a commonly used term :) SWMBO = "She Who Must Be Obeyed" aka the better half.

What music do you listen to while brewing?

Punk. Either through pandora (generally) or if I'm not too lazy to bring my laptop out to get the full mix. Nothing better than jamming to some great west coast vs. east coast punk mixes...

    Measuring strike/sparge water?

No, it would be only a loss on the strike. Once you do your initial mash, the grain is already saturated with water, there shouldn't be any loss during the sparge. If there is any, it should be minimal.

    removing stopper from primary

Actually.... My very first brew a few years back, for some reason I thought that the stopper needed to be under the lip of the carboy, bad mistake! I did eventually get the stopper out of the carboy, using a combination of a wire hanger, channel locks and a LOT of luck. As for getting...

    Newb :)

I think what Nurmey was trying to say is that the kit may require additional fermentables to be added, for instance sugar. Normally the kits are good for 5 gallon batches, but without seeing the actual kit ingredients and instructions it's hard to tell what additional items would be needed...

    Hydrometer reading mystery?

I do close to the same, I have a pan full of ice water with a measuring cup in it that I keep in the freezer, add the hot wort into a measuring cup. Easy for taking multiple readings over time since all you have to do is wash out the measuring cup. Same general concept, same results :)

    Where to buy Galaxy hops?

It's an Australia/New Zealand hop that I don't think I've come across, although I couldn't be sure. Here is a link for an Australian site that is selling them if you really want them... Galaxy Hops

    Beer glasses

If you have Cost Plus or could be World Market (depends on where you live) they have a pretty good selection of barware, mugs, pilsner glasses etc... But be wary there though, a lot of the stuff that they have isn't very high quality, although a lot of stuff there is pretty cheap.

    Crash Cooling/Bottling question

Thanks, I didn't think so, but haven't crash cooled yet so wanted to make sure there would be enough yeast in suspension that carbing would be normal. Thanks.

    Crash Cooling/Bottling question

Just wondering, if I crash cool for 2-3 days at ~33 degrees, will there be any problems bottle carbing?

How do I know my thermometer's accuracy?

Well, signs are pointing to 'it's ok'. I don't think I would use it personally, but free is free eh?

30 Gallons of beer in the house

I have 15 gallons conditioning right now, all last week was all store bought (60min IPA, Two Hearted and Hopslam though!). I have two brews that have been bottled for three weeks tomorrow so I finally have more HB to drink! Of course, I only have two that are ready to drink, another week...

    Is Nottingham yeast this slow?

This was the longest it ever took for fermentation to start for me at least, Brewed on Friday, fermentation didn't start until Monday evening, so right around the 72 hour range. I must add though it was quite an aggressive fermentation though, originally had a airlock on it but had to move to a...
