HERMS coil placement in a keggle. Need help!

I finally got my herms coil and was getting ready to install but then realized my keggle might limit my placement. It's a 1/2"x50' coil. Since I have a heating element in there I am limited to how low I can put it. Which either pushes me up almost to the top of the keg or down on the bump in one...

Amana 9.0 cf for their keezer? Not on the registry, how many kegs?

I am hoping to get at least 4 ball locks in there without a collar, since I have an elaborate build I will embark on this winter. I just need to have the starting place where I can accommodate what I already have...

First time playing with water chem. Critique me pls

I have rotating water sources throughout the year, and I am ready to try playing with my water now that I know which one I have. I am making a marzen with nobel hops, which I heard you want to keep sulfates low for. I have very low calcium in my water, and it took a bit of work to get it up...

Decocting with a small % of melanoiden?

Its Marzen time for me. I scaled a revised version of my recipe up to 10 gallons. Last year I decocted and it came out wonderful, and I had been planning on brewing this during a week night after work so I didn't think I would have time to do a DD. I decided to supplement some melanoiden malt...

Some discoloration on my first year and 2nd year plants

My 2nd year glacier has a bunch of multi colored spots. Is it mildew? Overwatering? We have had a bunch of rain in the past 2 weeks. Also some holes from Japanese beetles to I think. This plants leading shoots have been eaten 3 f#@*ING times. Anything else I can do except traps? (Pics 1-3) The...

Broke my hydrometer during preboil. Can I calulate OG?

I stupidly dropped my hydrometer back into my empty graduated cylinder after taking my preboil gravity. If my preboil gravity was 1.050, volume was 14 gallons, and my post boil volume was 11.5 gal, is there any way to calculate out what my OG should have been?

    Simcoe session IPA questions

Hey guys. I am planning on brewing this beer this evening. I am going for a session style IPA, to the tune of founders' all day ipa. I have a sh!tton of leaf simcoe, so I am trying to use it up. I have a couple questions since this is a style I have yet to try. Mash temp, should I be mashing...

What is this on the leaves?

I've been away for a few days and I came back to these dead patches on my leaves. All but one climbing plants seem to have it. The hallertau has it worst. Do you guys have any idea what I can do? These are all first year plants, started inside and have been outside for a week and a half. I am...

What type of wild yeast on grapes? Anything sour?

Last spring I noticed that there were some wild grapes growing out back. They may not be wild, I seem to remember my old man mentioning that the previous owner grew them for wine. But they have been growing wildly, and un-cared for for at least the past 15 years. Anyways, I have been...

Another Barleywine FG thread! Cant decide...

I brewed a Barleywine this past november, OG 1.124 and FG is currently sitting at 1.035. The target FG calculated by beersmith is 1.024. I used a big slurry pitch of WLP 090 that was only a couple weeks old at the time. So here I am sitting at 69% attenuation with a yeast that should be doing...

    Criticize my IPA!!!

Happy Monday all. This is a further tweaked version of a citra IPA ive been messing around with. It was originally 50/50 citra/centennial, but then I moved it more citra forward and liked it a lot. I want to experiment with galaxy and see if that keeps the juicy citrus forward while adding a...

Anyone in the Boston area have an eherms system they would want to show off?

Hey guys, I moved back to MA this past September. I have been brewing more and more since then. The stars somewhat aligned since I found a spare (live) 240v plug in some unused space at my old mans house thats great for brewing. So I decided to embark on the journey of building an eherms...

Turning 25, can I make a beer that will last 25+ years?

So I'm about to turn 25 next week and have been itching to do a stong ale of some sorts for a while. And if this doesn't seem like a good land mark to start at, idk what is. So is it possible to make a beer that will last super long (25+, hell even 50 yrs if I make enough?) I know...

Blending 2 yeasts for the 1st time, will 1 over power?

Per the suggestion of a local brewery in attempt to clone one of their beers, I was told to do a blend of saison and belg wit yeast. I bought WLP566 Saison II and WLP400 Belgian wit. My OG is only 1.062, but I am shooting for a FG of 1.007 and I usually make starters. How can I tell if one...
