    Moving a full Fermonster

I used the milk crate last night with 5.5 gallons in the fermonster. Worked great. By the way, I really like the fermonster. My buckets will be gathering dust unless I need additional fermenter space.

    Moving a full Fermonster

Hey, thanks for the input. I also ran across a homemade wooden crate design, which would offer a bit better support than my milk crate (crate is too wide). It uses 1x4's and 2x2s on the corners. At a minimum, I think I'll use the milk crate.

    Moving a full Fermonster

I just purchased a 7 gallon fermonster (http://thevintageshop.ca/products/fermonster.html) and am excited to use it for the first time. Given the relatively thin plastic construction, I plan to move it when full with a milk crate, similar to my glass carboys. I'm wondering if anyone does...

Using silicone for keg lines - avoiding plastic taste

Hey, thanks for the info. I think I'll use one of those products when I move up to a more serious kegerator.

Using silicone for keg lines - avoiding plastic taste

Interesting. For the record, I haven't experienced "plastic taste" ever to my knowledge, but then again, I dump off 2 oz or so when the line has been idle for a while, just in case. Gavin, are you making reference to Campden for removal of chlorine/chloramine and the associated phenolic...

Using silicone for keg lines - avoiding plastic taste

So in this forum post (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=60380) much was discussed about various different options for keg lines, to avoid the plastic taste. I am curious: has anyone used silicone (braided or unreinforced) for keg lines? I currently use a picnic tap and a few...

    Red Baron Bottle Capper.......

I purchased a Red Baron capper from NB in 1996. I have used it since, probably bottling an average of 2-3 batches a year without issue.

Danstar London ESB Dry Ale Yeast - Anyone use it yet?

I am pleased to hear the flavor profile is good. Might be what I am needing for a dark mild or brown ale. With regard to FG, I think the number colors our perceptions as a homebrewer too much (i.e., It finished at 1.020, this is going to be too sweet), rather than using taste as a guide. For...

PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

I unsubscribed from both MW and NB email lists the other day, offering "AB-Inbev Ownership" as my reason for unsubscribing. I figure a person ought to let them know where they went wrong.

Danstar London ESB Dry Ale Yeast - Anyone use it yet?

And what about Danstar Manchester ale? They pulled that one at the same time as London.

    Solved my oxidation woes

I too have a been thinking of oxidation, after a recent IPA went downhill early. My proposed process is a hybrid of what I have read: 1. Ferment in bucket. Connect hose from fermenter (in place of airlock) onto liquid out side of keg. Connect airlock to gas (in) side of keg. Goal is to...

building a spunding valve - options for pressure control?

More options! Per the thread referenced by jddevinn, the MoreBeer 1830S is an SS relief valve with a preset 55 psi spring (can purchase 20 psi spring from morebeer). Might be a good way to go. douglasbarbin, did you reverse the vac valve for use as pressure relief?

building a spunding valve - options for pressure control?

schematix - With regard to #2 - the 1/8" MIP size apparently seals with stainless steel - thus the tendency to leak. I am hoping the buna-n (3/8 MIP) seal model would be different, but don't know if anyone has tried it or not. With regard to #3 - the typical mirro weight contains 5-10-15 psi...

building a spunding valve - options for pressure control?

Hello. I aim to build a spunding valve, for use with 1-2 5 gallon corny fermenters. I see several options for the pressure control/relief part of the build, and am wondering about experiences with each: 1. A needle valve type, such as the petcock from my old pressure cooker (or a new...

    Blue Moon Clone

Thanks Nilo. There are a lot of variables related to orange peel! By the way, in reading your recipe #12 it looks like both coriander and orange peel are placed in the boil 10 mins before flameout. Is this correct?

    Blue Moon Clone

Hello. I am looking to brew this for summer enjoyment. I’m aiming to approximate a clone to Blue Moon. My question is: should I go with fresh orange zest, or dried orange zest (either McCormick or Frontier), and what is the approximate equivalence between the two? Thanks,
