Biscuit flavors using extract w/ specialty grains

I'm planning an ESB for my fourth batch. I've got my crystal malts figured out, but I'd like to add a touch of biscuit flavor. Evyen after looking at the malt chart, I'm having trouble finding a grain I can steep instead of mashing that will give me this. Any suggestions?

    Tripel - Distinct Flavors

He first tripel I ever tasted was new belgium's and I absolutely hated it. I tried a second, Golden Monkey by Victory, to see if it was the style of beer I didn't like. Although it wasn't as bad, there was a similar taste unique to these two brews that made it undrinkable to me. I'd like to...

    Hoppy Red Ale (extract)

I'm planning my third batch, this being my first recipe creation. I could use some critisism. I really want a good red color for this ale and it seems like that can be tricky to acheive. I'm worried about roasted barley adding coffee taste, so I've kept the amount low. Hopefully all the...

    Cara Red Amount

I've seen people say a lot of good things about using CaraRed, but not many guidelines on how much to use to achieve a good color. Another thing I'm unsure of is how much to reduce my other specialty grains. I first came up with 12% Crystal 80 and 3% Crystal 120 for and srm of 13. I'm trying...

    Pale or Amber Extract?

I'm starting to plan my third batch of homebrew and I want to make my own recipe. I think I I want to use 16oz Caramel 80 and 8oz Caramel 120 for my specialty grains. I understand that just about any type of beer can be made from pale extract and adding specialty grains, but how do results...

    Head Room in Growlers?

Does anyone have experience bottle conditioning in growlers? I have flip top and cap style growlers, both kinds are 64 oz. How much head space should I leave. I really don't want to destroy them, especially because a couple may not be mine.

    Depth of hydrometer sample

When grabbing a sample with a wine thief, does the depth the sample is taken from have an impact? It seems like it would considering how different the beer looks near the bottom, but I can't find anyone commenting on how deep they take their sample from. I have a pretty long thief should I...

A sad day.. I think my first batch is getting dumped...

I've thought about this quite a bit today after researching for hours... and it seems like my batch is ruined. I'm going to take a good long look at it whe. I get home, but I think I'm going to dump it. This is my first batch and I've made a few mistakes: 1. I boiled hopped extract...

    Starsan Odor

I took my first hydrometer reading a couple of days ago. I used a small amount of starsan. I used about a gallon of water, so i eyed about 1/5th of an ounce of starsan. I seperated a small cup of the solution and used it to refill my airlock. After i was done, i noticed a smell on my arms...

    Sanitizing with oven

When you sanitize/sterilize bottles in the oven, what do youmput them on or in? Also, about how long should they cool before bottling?

    Vinators without bottle tree

Are there any vinators that don't fit onto a bottle tree, becuase i don't have a tree. They all seem to be advertised to fit on top of trees. Can those types be used on a counter instead?

    I picked a bad spot...

My first batch is fermenting and I've just realized I picked a bad spot. The only place i had to put it was in a corner behind a recliner. I've wrapped it in a shirt and then a light but dark blanket to try to protect it from light. I was afraid that it being near and external wall would be...

    Easy Clean to sanitize

Have read people refer to Easy Clean as a sanitizer while others say it's just for cleaning. I saw great reviews for it on northern brewer from people saying they sanitize with it, so i ordered a five pound bucket since it's so much cheaper than starsan. Did i just waste my money, or can this...
