Any effect on adding LME before boil?

Messed up my brew routine today and added my LME to the pot immediately after steeping my specialty grains. Took 20 minutes to achieve a rolling boil. Anyone know what the affect would be of adding the LME before boiling instead of adding upon boiling?

So I had recently bought the liberty cream ale kit from Midwest and my friends loved it and I want more. I'm not trying to pay for all the shipping charges for the ingredients. I have everything I need to know for the recipe except what grains they gave me. They came in an unlabeled bag. Anyone...

Also terrible way to start that post off REVY. Read about 2 sentences of that post and moved to the next. Very constructive. You don't have to post on everything... Leave the computer for awhile and get some fresh air

    My friends are sheep

My brewing is most definitely based on my own preferences. I am a college student though and also enjoy the social aspect of brewing. My roommate and I just had an article in the school paper about our brewing so we are starting to get a lot of interest from people on campus. Tryin to make...

    My friends are sheep

So far I have made an English pale ale, IPA, 2xIPA, APA, and a bells Oberon clone. All of these have turned out fantastic. The problem is many of my friends are sheep and mainly drink piss-like commercial beers. I have grown tired or watching their facial reactions when thy take their first...

Reusing Yeast (1.064 OG w/o Starter)

Looked through previous threads and couldn't find a real answer for my question... I pitched 1 vial of WL 001 into my 1.064 OG IPA 2 batches ago. I did not make a started (changed my ways) so I know it was under pitched. It took about 36 hours for fermentation to start, which I understand...

almost 48 hour lag time on WLP 001

Yeah I read the stick about fermentation. Just wanted some more in depth information for my situation (with the exploding white labs on top of under pitching already). I am using a carboy for a primary and woke up this morning to my blow off tube full of krausen. Sorry for the repetition guys. I...

almost 48 hour lag time on WLP 001

So I decided to brew a 1.068 SG IPA this week and I aerated and cooled my wort correctly so I know that this is not the problem. This is my first time using White labs yeast. When I opened the vial after shaking I receive as nice yeast burst from the top and a small amount of yeast was not...

Use hops for Aroma in boil or for Dry Hop?

I plan on starting an IPA this week and I have 3 oz of cascade hops I am trying to get my best use out of them. My question is: should I use 2 oz in the last 5 min of the boil and 1 oz for dry hopping..... or 1 oz in the last 5 minutes of boiling and 2 oz for the dry hop? Here is what I have...

Any advice for my IPA recipe (From Scratch)

Really appreciate the advice guys!! I have been thinking about everyone's input and have rethought the overall recipe.
