FYI for those that bottle ....

and may be in the souteast region .... Highland Brewing Co. out of Asheville, NC has the *easiest* labels to remove that I've ever come across. they RARELY leave a residue on the outside of the bottle. plus, most of their offerings are pretty good. just sharing for those who bottle.

    UGH! I'm an IDIOT!

So I ordered a ruthless rye clone kit from AHB. I was in a rush tonight and did not pay attention. I went ahead got my water to temp. and added to the (pre-warmed) tun. Put my grains in and noticed it was much more difficult to stir. I thought the husks looked a bit bigger than usual, but...

Why would you not mash ALL these grains?

I know this probably should go in the brew science forum, but putting here because that gets too technical for me sometimes and am hoping for a "laymen's terms" dumbed-down type answer. I have brewed the Cherokee Nation (a hoppy brown) that is in the BYO recipe index before. However, I did it...

UH OH! is this a RDWHAAHB thing?

so i racked my weizenbock into my keg tonight. however, i had forgotten about the iodophor sanitizer that was in there. the 5 gallon keg was about 1/8 or so full of sanitizer. i didn't realize it until it started overflowing and couldn't understand how until i got to thinking about it and...

    Keg Cowboy CS?

I ordered a keg kit from them back on 12/17. I got an email immediately stating it was processed, so I know it went through. However, I still have not received what I orderd and it is now 1/4. I understand Christmas season is a busy time, and would have been content if I got some response when I...

    carbonation/bottle conditioning eat sugars too?

okay, i have just tried my aventinus clone. it has only been bottled for two weeks and i know it isn't ready yet, but was curious and wanted to try it anyway. it does have a little carbonation, but certainly needs more time, as i expected. however, it is way sweeter than i would expect...

    Wlp 833

(White Labs European Bock yeast) this is my first run with a lager yeast. i used this with the AHS Mailbock kit and it is fermenting fine right now. the instructions weren't really lager-based so i have some questions for anyone familiar with this strain. first off, an odd one ... i...

shriveled up dry and blackened leaves?

about 3 months ago i planted some nugget rhyzomes in a bed of root hormone (we have TN clay for substrate). i pretty much left them alone other than throwing some water at them from time to time. they were doing great. i had shoots coming up on all the plants. about a week ago i noticed that a...

    WLP 080 (Cream Ale)

Is this a very active yeast strain? This is the first time I have used this yeast so not sure if it should take off, or does it just slowly go about its business? I know airlock activity isn't a good barometer, but i barely have any bubbling. I didn't know if this is typical for this type of...

    looking for the BA meeting

you have heard of AA and NA, I am looking for Brewaholics Anonymous. Am I in the right place? okay. Hi, I'm Ed and I'm a Brewaholic. I have been brewing since late December when I received a kit that included damn near everything to brew except bottles, a brewpot, and ingredients. I got a 5...

    ferm chamber temp controller ???

well, it looks as if i am going to be picking up a used refrigerator. that is, if it is what the guy says it is. i shall find out tomorrow. i have a question about the temperature regulators that you plug the refrigerator into. i understand that the regulator controls the temp. of the...

Partial boil OG vs. Full boil OG

First off, I wish to give props to everyone of you. I have learned a great deal in the couple months I have been hanging out here. This is such a great resource. Thanks, guys and gals! I have been doing extract kits. I have just recently got a 7.5 gallon SS pot and started doing full boils...

    too much yeast?

is there such a thing? i just brewed up a Left Hand Milk Stout clone (extract w/grains) kit through Austin Homebrew. It suggested two vials of White Labs Calif. Ale yeast, so that is what i used. grain ingredients were: ¾ # Munich Malt ¾ # Black Roasted Barley ¾ # Pale Ale Malt ¾ #...

    carb issues ...

i brewed a BB European Bock extract kit a month or so ago and it has been bottled for a little over 2 weeks now. I figured it should've carbonated by now, so tested this evening. While the flavor was good, it just didn't have much carbonation to it. There was *some* but it never formed a...

    Significantly high OG

Okay, I am relatively new to brewing as I did my third batch Saturday night. They have each been Brewer's Best kits so far. The first was an English Brown Ale (which was rather tasty), the second an European Bock (still in bottling process), and the third an India Pale Ale. These are all...

east TN guy riding the learning curve ;j

Hey all I am new to brewing but have done a LOT of research since getting my Christmas present ( a brewing kit) but my third batch is currently in the primary. I am only setup for partial boil extract brewing at this point but hope to expand my equipment to be able to eventually get into...
