    German Pilsner color/clearness

My first pilsner here has been lagering for about 3 weeks now. Is this the right color? Do you think this will clear up more?

Diacetyl Rest - How long and what does it taste like?

I'm brewing my first lighter beer (pilsner). After about 2 weeks, the gravity was around 1.0998 which I'm hearing from most is in the ideal range for close to finished gravity for a pilsner. I put at 68 degrees for Diacetyl rest and it's been sitting for about 1.5 weeks. I 'recommendation' is 3...

Mead - store bought frozen fruit - late addition (1 month post ferment)

I've been reading on various forums and there is no consensus on whether to sterilize frozen fruit bought at store. Some places I read seemed to indicate this was done during gathering and distribution. Does store bought fruit need to be sterilized before addition? Additionally, it has been a...

    2 meads, advice.

I've got 2 meads a brewing. One has been done with fermentation for awhile now but I've been holding back on bottling (plus age is nice), because I was going to add fruit. Trouble is, my all my fermenters are being used and the one fermenter the first mead is in is not ideal for adding fruit...

Cider - sulfur smells during aging/after stabilization

1st fermentation used wine yeast + yeast nutrients. Everything went off without a hitch. 2nd fermentation, added strawberries and left in for about 2 weeks or so to ferment and flavor. No problems After racking to new container, I've since stabilized with campden + potassium sorbate. After...

    BIAB - For amateurs?

I have heard from some forums here and there that BIAB is for amateurs due to issues with extraction and such... Please give me hope in the BIAB

Spooky season Friday - ahhhghhh! Botulism !

Likely would be diagnosed OCD if I went to a psychologist, but I have been going down the rabbit hole of Botulism and risks in homebrew (beer, wine and mead). Basic consensus in the homebrew community from my telling is it's very unlikely using traditional homebrew methods. In fact, in my...

    - Cooling wort / No-chill / Botulism?

Hello, After reading some articles about the potential for botulism in a brew, it seems like pretty unlikely regardless of the method used, but I read an article indicating there is a slight chance if you use the no-chill method of cooling down your wort. I am budget-friendly brewer and have...

    Question about measurements - Pilsner

I bought ingredients for a pilsner recipe and was going to downsize, as I believed it to be for a 5 gallon recipe, but I actually can't find on the recipe page what the yield is for the recipe. The recipe calls for 7 Ibs of pilsner malt + 1.5 pounds dry malt extract and like total 8 gallons of...

Accidentally added potassium carbonate to cider instead of potassium sorbate for stabilizing

So wasn't thinking or reading ingredients very well... Pretty new to brewing and pulled out the wrong potassium and added potassium carbonate to my cider instead of sorbate along with campden. Will this ruin it? I also read instructions for p-carbonate and it says wine must be refrigerated...

    2nd go at cider, blueberry

Started some store bought cider probably around 6 months ago and forgot about it. Decided to add in some thawed blueberries (from frozen) and left for about 2 weeks. Fermentation seems to have wrapped up, but also noticed some white on top. Got a little scared, but looks to not be fuzzy. I think...

    Mini-Keg - Where to get CO2 cartridges

I recently got a mini-keg that takes 3/8inch thread 16g cartridges. Shipping is kind of hard here, so was wondering if anyone knows where to buy them? Also do they have to be drink grade or could you use something like an airsoft CO2 cartridge?

    Bottle Carbo experiment

I've been around many forums and found that it is generally not good practice to try and carbonate cider (or mead) in bottles sweet because of the bottle bombs that result. That being said, I recently came across a method that sparked my interest so I started to brain storm a bit. I also note...

New to Cider making - sulfur smell I know

So I just wanted to do experiment on doing cider so I bought some grocery store apple juice and POG juice. I made sure there weren't any preservatives in them and it was good juice for this. I used Red Star Premier cuvee and yeast nutrients, woke up the yeast and did a good shake for waking the...

    First time mead brew.

Hi. I have some questions about mead brewing as I want to try it out. I currently have had one successful beer brew and one unsuccessful cider brew. I've heard differing things on mead brewing as with most brewing, everyone has their different methods. I want to make a semi-sweet to sweet...

    Gathering Wild Yeast....

So I have been curious about the process of gathering Wild Yeast as I know some homebrewers do this. I have concocted a couple of sugary liquids which I found people do different things, some with honey water, some with simple syrup and some with fruit juices So far I know I've captured yeast...

    Hello...

I am new here and very beginner homebrewer. Have a 2 gallon glass fermenters and love weird tasting beer (without any sour). I have lots of questions always, and am always trying to learn. I have so far brewed one porter (successfully) and am in the middle of a cider I started.

Cider smelling very sour...? First time. (A journey)

This is my second time brewing so I am way beginner. First time I followed a kit and it was actually a really successful brew and was pretty enjoyable. Second time is now, (still brewing) a cider. I went to a natural grocer and bought unfiltered, pasteurized, no preservative cider and a couple...
