    Ayup! Brewery gets started

Ayup welcome to brewing. What did you do to your knee? I injured mine (Torn ACL and meniscus) over 20 years ago and it healed fine and I was able to do anything I wanted albeit with less range of motion and occasional pain. The older I got the worse it got. Don't put off surgical repairs as it...

Hi everyone, especially all the Female Brewers out there!

Welcome. The stout sounds fantastic. I have hard water here and it seems to do better with dark beers and stouts. I think the best i ever made was a chocolate/coffee stout. Was sad to see the bottom of the last one of those. Alan

    Efficiency wtf?

I've been doing AG for years and have never calculated my efficiency. I believe its around what others have said. (70-80%) I'm not really concerned with it because my OG's are generally in the range of the recipe or whatever I'm trying to do. If I'm off a bit I'll add a smidge more grain next...

Look out, Miller Lite is now triple hopped.

I just think its funny how stupid or ignorant the average beer drinker is when they fall for all this beer marketing BS. Their commercials are funny and I have certainly swilled a few of their beers in my day but I am always amazed at the garbage claims they make.

Man being the hophead that I am, I can't wait to try this Miller Light stuff! Triple hops huh? What is it an IPA? DIPA? I think the the term "triple hopped" means they use 3 hop cones per barrel

    Terrapin Hop Karma clone....

This stuff gets better by the day. Absolutely a great beer. I think I may do a repeat on this one istead of what I had planned next. Regards, Alan

    Terrapin Hop Karma clone....

I kind of adapted it a bit and just tapped the first two pints tonight. Not Terrpin but it is still green and it is similiar though mine is higher ABV. Only been on the gas for a week. I think this one is going to be really good. Only real difference I notice so far is the mouthfeel is not quite...

    www.fiftypoundsack.com - cheap bulk grain

Without searching this entire thread, are the fifty pound sack people in TN? I just paid $58 plus the ridiculous 10% sales tax from the LHBS for Briess 2 row which I thought was very high. Commodity prices are going up though so it would stand to reason that barley prices will go up steeply.

    My efficiency is terrible.

I agree with this. My system is the same as yours except I crush my own grains and probably give about 1/10 of the concern you do to doughing in etc. Also if I'm off by a degree or two I generally don't sweat it. I do hand fly sparge by slowly adding water with a quart container and I drain the...

    Brewery firing up next Sunday...

Go for it. What have you got to lose. I agree w/ the other guy on the Victory malt but I've never used GNO so i do not know what you are shooting for there. Good Luck Alan

    Which yeast should i use?

I've done two lagers. One Czech pils from a northern brewer kit and a Maibock that I formulated myself. Both extract. Pils was bad Maibock was good but like others have said not worth the work. I just pitched my harvested 3 year old Bavarian lager yeast on a starter and believe it or not, it...

    First All grain brainstorm

You need to make an oatmeal stout. Since you mentioned that you did not like bitter beers and your friends did not like your SN clone, an oatmeal stout might be right up your alley. Think of a smooth stout with a creamy mouthfeel. Ever tried Sam Smith's oatmeal stout? IMO my recipe is better or...

what to do with a yeast starter

Throw it in the fridge. When you get back and get ready to brew take it out and let it come to room temp while you are brewing. When ready to pitch, throw he whole thing in the fermenter. It'll be fine. I do this all the time. Alan
