I previously had a regular IC and moved to a counter flow after I moved to 20 gallon batches. After a year I knew I need to move back to the IC as the CFC was not effective in cooling 20 gallons. Thanks to this thread I was able to bring my cooling times down significantly.
I used 50' of 3/8...
I used to store it in a box that came with my 5 gallon carboy but found out that bugs were nesting in the cardboard. Need another idea. I store all my gear in the garage between brews.
Thanks!
Thanks for the responses. In Atlanta area the water is in the 50's.
I was running the water and the march pump full blast and the wort was over 100. The exit water was lukewarm at best. I recirculated into the kettle until the wort was 70.
Next time I will moderate wort flow so I can pump...
I'm looking for advice on the most efficient way to use the chiller. With my old immersion chiller I had the cooling water running full blast. Do you moderate the water flow or just the wort flow?
I'm repurposing my IC to build the CC. What is your recommendation on length of the coil? Should I get a 25 ft or 50 ft hose? Cutting off the ends of a 25 ft hose would only leave enough for about 23 ft for the actual coil. Do you think this is long enough?
Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to price a keggle that has a brass ball valve, weldless bulkhead fitting with a SS nipple and SS pipe. The interior has a SS false bottom with a copper/brass 1/2 inch pipe compression fittings for easy disassembly.
There is no lid or thermometer.
What do you ink is a fair price?
Did a search but could not find the answer.
I built a cpvc manifold with hack saw cuts every 1/2 inch. Deburred the inside of the tube the best I could with a copper pipe.
Other than taking off the upc stickers and washing with dish soap is there anything else I need to do before my...
Impressive build, that thing is a beast. I wonder if you reach maximum cooling potential before the wort runs the entire length. Could you get the same cooling with say 6 runs?
Thanks, good to know I can still batch sparge. Was not looking forward to dial in fly sparging method.
I currently use an IC but looking to supplement it with a counterflow chiller. There is a brewer on YouTube that fabricated a straight pipe CFC out of 10 foot sections of3/4 and 1/2 copper...
