Hmmm, what is Passedpawn doing...

Some will know right away, but I thought it would be fun to put the pic up here anyway.

Oh yea, BTW, to head off the argument, it's legal.

yeah - very easy to do with apfelwein. A weak apple brandy is yummy.

I thought that was illegal until that Basic Brewing Podcast! You'll have to let us know how it tastes!

LOL I agree.

(it was rather old apfelwein that had sat in the garage for a year or so. Had oxidized several times over)

:mug:

Definitely will bring out the flaws, big time. I did it with a pineapple wine that had fusels and it almost knocked me out. Had to dump it.

This pic is about year old. It came out quite hot. I didn't like it and gave the few bottles of it away ( I think ).

The mild was a good style to do this with. It didn't get too cloying after the concentration. Note that the flavor does come out with the alcohol, so I think starting with a smaller beer is best.

Wish I took pictures of the final product. If it is still in my closet, I'll post.

I'm not familiar with concentrating... Did you just freeze beer, then drain out the alcohol (which I'm assuming didn't freeze)??

Yea, that's about it. I didn't put much thought into it. Maybe that has something to do with the resulting taste. I'm not a high-gravity beer drinker, so I did it more for the "gotta do it at least once" factor rather than the actual beverage.

BTW, this is how an eisbock is made, which is BJCP Style 5D.

I'm going to brew a huuuuge barleywine this summer for my 45th birthday, and let it age til my 50th. I'm considering racking off at least a gallon of it and do the same thing. Those will be the "special" bottles.

you can also chop it up a bit and put it in one of those salad spinners if you're too impatient.

I'm planning a barley wine for my third batch and I am planning on doing this with a gallon of the batch. Inspired, of course, by the guys at basic brewing...

I was going to say you were fresh out of growlers so you went with the milk jug and your wife kindly tossed it in the freezer to keep cold then forgot about it. Only to later call you up and say oops :). I can tell you a bottle cage doesn't keep the cork in a 750 ml when one's wife "oops."
