Hi all....I'm making a starter for wyeast's 1056. I've made starters before but always with White Labs yeast. My question is...do I smack the pack, let it swell and then continue with the starter or do I just cut open the pack and pour straight into the starter? I'm assuming I'll want to smack the pack because of the nutrient packet inside, but I just want to make sure. Thanks

I'd smack the pack. Why not feed the yeast with the food that the lab thinks is best for it? No need to wait for the pack to expand, though... If you are dumping it all into the starter, the yeast will still have the nutrients available, plus the nutrients from the starter wort.

Smack the pack. then dump all of the liquid into your starter wort. Do it.
