Since tomorrow is the 4th it had to be brew day today. We're doing a 10 gallon variation off of ThePols Orange/Cascade Pale Ale. It was a long night last night, so we finally cleaned and doughed 15 minutes ago. I'll be posting pictures here in a bit. Anyone else having a fantastical brew day?

I am making 2 batches of Apfelwein tonight.

Might change my mind, and make 1, plus a batch of meade

I'm 25 minutes into my boil right now. Brewing up a Bavarian Hefe. I had a few hours between meetings today so decided to come home and brew some beer.

11 gallons of my ordinary bitter here. Just finished cooling down... letting the whirlpool sit for a while.

Trying the dreaded Windsor yeast (poor attenuation). I'm looking for a good, fruity/estery dry yeast for bitters. Notty and S-04 just don't do it for me in a bitter. I nursed the mash at ~149°F, cut out the Cara-pils and increased the Lyle's Golden Syrup for better attenuation. We'll see...

Boddingtons ag clone tomorrow morning. Brewing with a friend that has never done it before. I told him to get a bucket to ferment in. He bought a whole starter kit. Giving him 1/2 of a 10 gallon batch. Trying out the new conical fermenter for the first time. S-04 yeast.

I'm ready!

HAHA, its 95 F outside... im holding off until the weather cools down, i.e. sunday. Can wait to brew! Doing a dogfish 120 clone, could be crazy

I threw together some odds and ends... I'm trying to make a beer for 1-2 week turnaround, and also want to experiment with ginger in the boil.

Fast ??? Ginger Ale
5# Extra Light DME
1# Crystal L20
.5 oz Challenger (7%) 60 min
.5 oz Challenger (7%) 45 min
.25 oz Cascade (7.5%) 10 min
.25 oz Cascade (7.5%) 5 min
1oz Thin sliced Ginger Root 10 min
S-05

I've got an APA planned for tomorrow, depending on what my plans are.

I am half way through a 5 gal Bavarian Hefe decoction mash. What a PITA!!!! Those Germans sure do know how to pick a long drawn out process. I hope its worth it in the end.

Tomorrow, I will be drinking some of BierMunchers centennial blonde with some BMC drinkers. We'll see if they like it, I know I am going to enjoy it.:mug:

Yep, doing a 2.5 gallon stove top test batch of a red. Just doughed in.

If it turns out okay would you be so kind as to share the recipe? I'm looking for something like this, I love the red ales. My boss wants me to make a Killians clone but I prefer just a little more malt flavor.:):rockin::ban:

It would be nice if it was only 95 out right now...

No brewing for me, although I am just about to place an order with Austin Homebrew so I can brew a honey blonde ale.

I ended up getting 68% attenuation with the Windsor. Not bad I guess. It finished fermenting in 2-3 days.

Brewing Monday.. Getting ready go to up to the LHBS to pick up the essentials. Making my starter of washed WLP001 here in just a bit. Little bro in town from Germany getting ready to be shipped out to Afghanistan (Army). Need to teach him the rops of AG brewing before he leaves. He loves the beer and now wants to know how its done. Woot!

First AG today. An easy drinking APA with:

10lbs 2-row
.5 lbs Crystal 40L
.75 oz Magnum 60 min.
1 oz Amarillo 10 min.
1 oz Amarillo 0 min.
2 oz Willamette dry-hop 1 week in primary
No secondary, leave in primary for 4 weeks

Dee-licious!

Stuck at work today, but bottled my oatmeal stout and brewed a 60-minute ipa on Thursday. After cleaning out my airlock twice with the stout, I picked up a 6.5 gallon carboy for primary, and my ipa has plenty of headroom now! Gonna start a pseudo-pilsner next...

The beer I made last Saturday is done, Eveything went as planned. Hit the OG right on the money. Travis (new brewer) took home a cube of boddingtons and a pack of S-04 yeast. Mine is done and tastes great out of the fermenter. His finished a couple of days ago. He has never fermented or bottled before. I'll get him hooked yet.

This is the first time around for the conical too. Next time (next weekend) its Wyeast 1084 and my first time washing and storing it.

I learned a lot here in a few weeks.

I would love to be brewing right now but it's 109* outside. It is sad that I have to wait until tonight (when it will be a cool 95*) to even think about brewing. Oklahoma summers are wack.

Finally brewing my American wheat/rye with caraway seeds.

I've had the grain in the freezer for months... Didn't think I was going to be able to brew today, it was supposed to rain, but I checked the forecast again early this afternoon and it was clear.

This is my first all-grain batch. Everything went beautifully except one thing. I hit all my temperatures dead on, and beat my efficiency goal. I had BeerSmith set for 70%, and actually hit 73%. Not bad for the first time.

The one thing that I screwed up on was that I had a stuck sparge (2nd round of sparging) and didn't realize it. I was about 0.9 gallons short on boil volume, so I went ahead and added that much water. Then I looked in the MLT and saw there was still liquid in there. I was all set to add some DME, but I took my pre-boil gravity and was actually .002 over the target even with having added the water.

My calculations show that I would have been .004 over with what was left in the MLT instead of the water I added.

I guess I'll add some DME to the rest of what I collected from the MLT and use it for starters.

I'm a pretty happy camper.

[Edit: Wow, I think I screwed up the equation the first time around. I think I actually got 82% efficiency. If I hadn't added .9 gallons of water (1.000) but instead added the .9 gallons stuck in the MLT (1.029), I would have ended up with a pre-boil gravity of 1.050, and post-boil gravity of 1.061. Don't know how I managed that.]

I'm itching.

I just bottled an IPA that used 1/2lb of hops, most of which was Amarillo with a massive charge at the end and 2 oz. dry hopped. An almost explosive tangerine-tropical fruit hop aroma and flavor. Finished nice and dry West-coast style @ 1.010. All hail US-05 and it's kick ass attenuation. That's gonna be awesome in the dog days later this month and next.

I saw some sour cherries at the local market and all I can think about is stewing 2 lbs of those down and dumping it in a nice, crisp American-style wheat ale.

Ok, so I've been out of town for a week, but my friend got the pictures of the brew day online, so rather late than never here they are. We left for a lake trip that evening, but the airlock on the sanke was bubbling furiously when I got back 2 days later.

Hard alcohol bottle chiller. An aquarium pump shoots water through copper tubes in the keezer up to the beer bucket that also has copper tubing and then up to the bottles themselves. It really only works if there's ice in the bottle bucket, but it keeps the bottles relatively cool. It's not in commission right now as you can see from the empty bottles.

Did a partial mash this past Saturday with my brother and friend. They've never done it before so I let them do a lot of the actual brewing (with lots of direction of course) while I took care of the sanitization of the equipment and did some stuff around the house. First time using WLP029 and I don't think the wort got aerated well, so I'm TRYING to wait patiently for some signs of life. I probably should have been a little more involved with the post boil activities. Oh well, we'll still have beer in the end even if it wasn't what I was shooting for. I think we missed the mark on the OG by a mile. Might end up having a really tasty near beer.

Just got done brewing a Columbus IPA - took right at 4 hours. My AG process is getting much more efficient.

I just lit the fire on a 5 gallon batch of AHS Warrior Pale. In a few minutes I will pop the top off an AHS IPA and settle in for an evening of brew. :mug:
