I brew a lot of my beers using White Labs California Ale. What I might do is buy about 5 packs of this and just store them in my fridge. However, is there a more economical way to do this? I have heard the term yeast starter but am totally unfamiliar on how/if it would work for this situation? What would I need to buy and how could I ferment several batches would just one pack? Is this difficult and time consuming? What would I need to buy? any links would be appreciated.

I am really a newbie at this and would appreciate the advice.

Any books or articles you'd suggest?

Buy a Erlenmeyer flask,DME, stir plate and your in business.
