Been more of a grumpy jerk recently than usual. My computer is on the fritz, grandparents are very ill, a number of factors. Yesterday, I did something I hate, and I'm beating myself up about it a bit.
SWMBO had the day off while I was at work. Her phone, as is her custom, was dead as a doornail. She was awaiting a delivery from a popular grocery delivery company to come in the first delivery route.
I got a call from the company saying that the driver was ringing the bell but there was no answer. Since I couldnt get in contact with SWMBO, they asked if they could drop the grocery boxes off in front of the house. I said that yes this would be alright, and sent SWMBO an email saying that this is what happened. Mind you, this is while I am at work, and I try to limit personal calls seeing as how Ive only been here a few months.
When she emailed me back about 5 minutes later I found out that no one had rung, there were no boxes, and she had been in the house the whole time. WTF. I call back and ask what is going on. "The boxes have been dropped off in front of the house since no one opened the door" "Actually, there are no boxes there and no one rung our bell" "Do you not see the boxes" "No, there are no boxes there, and no one rung the bell" "The boxes have been dropped off in front of the house" "I have just told you that no boxes are in front of our house, I can assure you that we have no boxes"...
This went on for a couple minutes. It was beginning to feel like Who's on First?
And thats when I did it. I became a dick. "Perhaps we could ask the driver to return to wherever in the hell it is in Astoria or otherwise that he randomly dropped boxes of my groceries and bring it to my house, what do you think?" I said something bull**** about "not trying to be an ******* about this" but honestly, I was very much trying to be an *******. I was annoyed I had to deal with this while I was at work. I was also annoyed that they would get the wrong address, and that they didnt seem to believe me when I told them that there were no boxes at my house.
Ultimately, within 45 minutes the problem was rectified. We got an email apology, and the delivery fee was deducted from our bill.
Now, I am remorseful and regretful because I know those drivers got in trouble, perhaps even had their pay docked, for what was most likely an honest mistake. I dislike when people are jerks to me and I dislike it even more when I am a jerk to other people.
Thanks for listening, and if you happened to be driving that truck... sorry.
