I found a guy on craigslist selling five glass carboys. He had pics and they all looked clean and well-maintained. Initially, he wanted $30 apiece, but I haggled him down to $20 apiece. Is this a good deal? At the HBS, they have new ones for sale for $36. We want to start making wine (we live down the road to a small you-pick vineyard) and apfelwein in the fall. Then there's all that beer I plan to brew...I have a disease...and the only cure is more carboys...

Considering that wear and tear on carboys is kind of an all-or-nothing proposition, isn't anything under retail a decent deal?

If you want carboys that's a pretty solid deal right there.

I prefer buckets (less weight and easier to clean IMO), even cheaper, but if glass is what you're after then I'd grab those in a heartbeat.
