So we just brewed a holiday ale. It was supposed to have an OG of 1.052. Our measured OG was 1.066. This is the first time we've made one that has been this far off? First off, is this bad and what should we expect from it? Secondly, any thoughts as to why this may have been?

AHS Holiday Ale recipe... followed the instructions to a T.

Grain: 1 lb crystal 40l, 8 oz white wheat, 4 oz choc malt
Extract: 7 lbs extra pale
Hops: 1 oz cluster x60 min, 1 oz Saaz x5 min
Extras: Spice pack x15 min, Yeast fuel x10 min

Assuming the extract was measured at AHS correctly, I don't think the gravity difference is because of the recipe. Are you sure you had 5 gallons at the end or was it less? Was it a full or partial boil. Most of the off-gravity problems with extract batches come from inadequate mixing before taking a gravity reading.
