substitute for flaked oats

My LHBS said i can sub quaker oats for flaked oats. is this a viable option?

Absolutely. It's probably cheaper at the LHBS (is at mine anyhow) but oatmeal is obviously widely available.

Use quick oats, not regular or instant.

yes, u can use quaker, just not the quick oats.
