did it fall inside or is it just stuck in the bunghole (thanks for giving me opportunity to use that word!)?

If it fell in here is a good trick to get it out.
Take a thin dishtowel and push some of it in the opening. turn the fermenter oonits side and shake to get the stopper on the cloth. Grab it and pull. Comes right out.
Ask me how I know this..............
