A buddy of mine has a setup like that for toting kegs to various activities and he seems to like it all right. However, the little CO2 canisters will only work for serving, not carbonating. To carbonate, you'll either need to add priming sugar to the keg and wait the requisite 2-3 weeks for it to naturally carbonate or get a CO2 tank and regulator for force carbonating.

The downside I see to the system as sold is that it comes with a single small canister of C02 without a regulator. Typically you prime the beer to carbonate, and just push it with an occasional blast from the CO2 cartridge. You can't really adjust serving pressure very accurately, and the mini CO2 cartridges are pricey.

I would suggest trying to cobble together a kegerator from craigslist, maybe a cheap busted kegerator could provide a tank and regulator?

I think most that buy the linked mini draft system eventually move up to a tank and regulator system FWIW.

Nice links from Craigs! I'll have to keep a lookout........But as far as priming, you actually add your sugar to that keg, let it carb up, and then use the C02's to dispense.

So, this will at least cut my bottling days to half !!! Anyone use this, comments, thoughts ?

Honestly, for that price, why not buy two corny kegs? Another option is the Party Pig. My brother and I bought one for my dad. He loves to drink out beer, but doesn't brew. We would brew up a batch and then give him 2 gallons in the Pig. It was about 4 batches in when he ordered up a full kegging system from Midwest. A couple of 5 gallon Cornies it about the best set up I have come across. For the lake in the summer, we have actually thought about a full-size Sanke.

Long story short, nobody ever said I wish I would have gone smaller.

Agreed, while kegging equipment isn't cheap, it's worth every penny.

And on the upside. It holds its value on the used market, so if you lose interest, you can recoup most of your money.

I'm just getting into kegging and have picked up everything on the cheap. I got some stuff on craigslist, some from my LHBS. You just gotta be patient and grab things when they are at a good price.

If you are really interested in that setup, I'd call AIH and ask if you can buy the 5g pinlock kit, but swap the 5g for a 3g. And pick up a 20oz CO2 tank (you'll also need a paintball adapter or find out if you can swap that regulator for the paintball tank regulator).

20oz tank: http://www.homebrewing.org/20-oz-Paintball-CO2-tank-_p_1125.html

If you ever upgrade to a full kegorator, all of this stuff will be reusable.

I would certainly recommend AIH!!! I have their 2.5 or 3 gal keg, that I use for soda. I would also recommend spending the extra money for a regulator and larger tank either paintball or standard size. Standard tank being my choice, but more expensive up front, and saving money long term.
