I have washed much yeast, harvested yeast from bottles, and pitched on yeast cakes. What I have not done (and this is my question to any of you that have) is siphoned my yeast out of primary after cold crash so that I can add gelatin fining in order to keep my yeast and beer clean.
Sounds similar to what big breweries do with conicals. Except they drop the yeast from the bottom.
I realize I will not get "all" of the yeast, and I will lose some beer to this process, but I'd like to keep the gelatin out of my washed yeast without having to use a secondary.
I also think it will help to keep the gelatin and yeast out of my bottling bucket when I transfer on bottling day since the volume of slurry at the bottom of my carboy should be significantly less.
Anyone with experience here?
