My brewpots have rivets that are slowly rusting. Should I be concerned about iron? What does it taste like?

Edit: Bonus question! Can I seal it with epoxy or superglue or something? The pot is stainless, the rivets apparently are plated steel.

yes, its possible that you could leach enough iron into your wort in the course of a brew to possibly taste the blood-like flavor. I would coat the rivets with a thin coat of silicone seal. It won't be perfect and you'll have to re-do it occassionally, but it will help reduce the contact with the iron. It's not really a big deal.

Thanks Martin. I’ll play with different adhesives and when I get it right I’ll replace both pots. They’re cheap 12 qt pots that work great on my electric stovetop. I can even mash in the oven. They’re perfect for my tiny apartment.
