Hey all,

I've been looking in to brewing a version 2.0 of my Rogue Cold Brew IPA clone, and I found some additional info on a few of their proprietary varieties (Freedom, Rebel, and Liberty) used in the Cold Brew IPA that I thought might be useful for other folks looking to clone Rogue beers:

Note - all hop info here is coming from ychhops.com. I'm also sticking to American/Pacific Northwest hops, because...well, that's where Rogue is, and that's where they're growing their proprietary hops.

Freedom - what do we have to go on? Dual purpose, floral/lemon aromas, 9.5%-11.5% AA, 1.5-2.5mL oils/100g.

Based on this, my best guess as a substitute would be Centennial. Classic American dual-purpose hop, aroma profile is floral and citrus/lemon, 1-3mL oils/100g, and it generally falls between 7-12% AA. Runner-up candidates are Amarillo (7-11% AA, floral/lemon/citrus, 1-2.3mL oils/100g, but not generally known as a dual-purpose hop) and Falconers Flight (9.5-12% AA, floral/lemon/citrus, 1.6-4.6mL oils/100g, but not generally known as a dual-purpose hop).

Rebel - what do we have to go on? Aroma hop, floral/citrus/grapefruit aromas, 4.5%-7% AA, 0.8-1.5mL oils/100g.

Based on this, my best guess as a substitute would be Ahtanum. Classic American aroma hop, aroma profile is floral/citrus/grapefruit, 0.5-1.7mL oils/100g, and it generally falls between 3.5-6.5% AA. Best runner-up candidate is Cascade (5.5-9% AA, floral/citrus/grapefruit, 0.8-2.5mL oils/100g).

Liberty - what do we have to go on? Dual-purpose hop, floral bouquet/subtle citrus, 11%-13% AA, 1.5-2mL oils/100g.

This one is tricky. My best guess is that Horizon could be used as a substitute. It's described as floral/spicy, maybe not so much the citrus but Rogue does say "subtle". The 0.5-1.5ml oils/100g specified on YCH is a bit different than Rogues 1.5-2, but the AA is close at 8.8-12%. I would guess that whatever Liberty is closest to, it's what Rogue uses as the bittering hop in their Cold Brew IPA, so maybe finding an exact substitute isn't as important.

Hopefully someone else finds this info helpful!
