I don't recall of the SF spot was that big, but my god was it massive. I need to go back to that place eventually. I'm planning (at this point at least) to make it out to NHC next year if it still happens in San Diego, so I might have to make a trip to the LA one then.

The SF and Berkeley stores are both big, but the Hollywood store is literally the biggest independent record store in the world. 2 hour drive from San Diego, but if you can swing it, I'd say try. Plus you can hit up Stone in Escodidio and the Bruery in Placentia on the way. Boom!

When I was in college I was a DJ at the campus radio station. We used to gather up all of the garbage promos that record labels sent us and take them to Amoeba in Berkeley to sell. We would then use all that money to buy records for the station. Standing in that store with $500 to spend is quite a feeling.

That's the one! Here's another one of his that I love...

Given that half the time he's credited as Roland and the other half Rolando I could never figure out which was accurate. Nice tune either way.

listening to the specials right now, had my little guy dancing to 'message to rudy' earlier.

Nice tune selection if nothing else. The hair, not so much. The due with the crop mullet thing toward the end in particular. Either go short crop or longer, not both. Just looks bad.

Yeah, I've been drinking, what of it? :mug:

And you most likely never will. All three Amoeba's are amazing. If you ever find yourself in or around LA, go to Amoeba in Hollywood. It's something like 40,000 square feet. Absolutely staggering.

I miss going to Amoeba in Hollywood. They have there own subterranean parking garage they're so big! I actually bought a shirt just a couple weeks ago from the Hollywood stores website. Only 10 bucks, cool logo

Here's a local RI band that's really good. A kid my wife works with is friends with them. Really tight group to see live, and they're playing with some good acts like the Slackers, Pietasters, and the English Beat to name a few.

Pretty sure I've heard these guys before, but I'm not positive.

Nice thing about The Pietasters being a local band (and one I like) is that they still play a number of free shows around the area. A free summer concert at a county park a few years ago, a lot of local residents seemed rather confused why a number of folks in boots and braces were dancing. Hah.

I get that look quite a bit. just yesterday in my hometown I stopped into the record store that used to be loaded with punk/Oi!/reggae/ska to find it more of a skate/head shop than when I left. the confused look on the clerks faces when I asked if they any reggae other than Bob Marley. the hipster looking goon gave me a 2 disc Trojan Dub for free though.

Apparently I'm being dragged to see Rx Bandits tonight (my wife loves em, i could take em or leave em). After the day I've had I'd rather stay home and get pissed. If I get pissed at a show I'll probably unleash and end up with someone leaving in stretcher and me leaving in cuffs

stick with water then, bruv. at least until you get home.

Make that firmly in the "leave it" pile. The guys are talented and get into it, but last I checked they at least resembled 3rd wave ska. There's a definite reggae influence, but influence only, and that hippie ass prog rock jam band thing is infuriating especially when its your entire set.. And then of course there's no parking spaces left anywhere in my parking lot, or on my street, or the couple streets next to it, and the closest one I'll now have to get up at the asscrack of dawn to move it (hoping there's a spot closer) or feed the meter or park in the neighboring buildings lot where i may or may not get towed. Meh.

Early 90's NYC, this was probably my favorite song to hear live

And just because

Been a while since I've thought about these guys. Once again, the wife likes em more than I do. Because she speaks a bit of Spanish. I speak all of none. Now Deutsch ska might be a different story.

I videotaped the Halloween show at Coney Island High the year before for Murphys Law. I haven't seen any footage from the 97 show anywhere. Probably because I was too drunk to hold the camera steady. At least my audio wasn't out of sync like in the above video.

My favorite Jamaican music: Ini Kamoze

1. Hotstepper

This is such an awesome album. It was expensive as hell and I almost put it back. I'm glad I didn't.

That's a good one too.

I always liked this version:

It's good, but nah, I don't think any version will ever compare to Harry J's.

Talk about a skinhead reggae classic.
