Sorry if it's in the wrong room/category.

Has anyone ever tried aging alcohol/whiskey using red oak?

Does it really taste like animal pee?

please advise.

Thank You

Never tasted animal pee, but I get what you're saying. I haven't used red oak for aging beer, but as a hobby woodworker I can tell you that it has a lot of tannins. Very astringent. Just the smell I get when cutting or milling red oak tells me I wouldn't want it in my beer.

Stick with white oak. There's good reason distilleries use it for barrels.
