Batch sparging it doesn't really matter. Fly sparging, how the shape of the manifold matches the shape of the cooler matters.
I use a round with an hexagon shaped cpvc manifold. I batch sparge. I used a toilet braid for a while and got 5% better efficiency with the manifold.

I think the round with a false bottom lends itself to fly sparging due to the deeper grain bed. If batch sparging you can use either with any manifold or false bottom arrangement.
