So this is my first time brewing beer (I've done a fair amount of fruit wines) and I found a 1 gallon all grain recipe for an espresso stout and I wanted to make sure I read this right.

It calls for 3 quarts of water to steep the grains in and then another gallon to sparge the grains with after that to create the wort. It's only supposed to be a 1 gallon yield. Does this sound correct? The link is: http://homebrewexchange.net/homebrew_recipe/pico-espresso-stout

Bear with me and thanks in advance!

You're going to boil for an hour - so yeah - should be close. One of the things I LOVE about brewing is that any recipient will get you close - but ultimately you have to try it and see!

Your grains will absorb water and then more will also get boiled off. While I haven't double checked your numbers, my intuition tells me it's about right.
