How much dextrose should I add to 5 gallons to prime? Also how much xylitol for backsweetening? We prefer a slightly to fairly sweet cider but not overly sweet

For priming sugar, using about 1 ounce (by weight) should mean a fizzy carbonated cider, similar to a beer's carbonation.

For xylitol, I couldn't say. First, what I think is "too sweet", you may find not the least bit sweet, as taste is very subjective. I drink mine dry, so I would fine something you like (say, like Woodchuck cider) undrinkable. It's really a matter of person taste.

Also, in large amounts or in small amounts in susceptible people, it has a laxative effect and creates gas- and I don't know how much that is for you (if at all).

I think Yooper may have mixed up your batch size. Did you mean 1 oz per gal Yooper?
