I've been thinking about the false bottoms at the bottom of the mash tun and was wondering if anyone has ever tried using what would amount to a giant coffee filter between the mash tun and brew kettle. Do you see any reasons this would work to improve things or cause problems?

I don't have anything like this on hand, it's just something that seemed like it might be useful.

No need... overkill, IMHO.

Vorlauf before draining the tun. I use a CPVC manifold, and vorlauf. Takes about a quart or two, depending on the beer. Runs pretty clear into the brew kettle.

Not only those points, but paper would imply disposable. You're not a homebrewer unless you pinch every penny whenever possible only to waste it on grain and hops.

sounds like a good way to have a stuck sparge to me ...too fine of a filtration for sparging IMO
