My LHBS has a couple different types of pale malt. One being American and another being British (if I remember correctly anyway). I asked what the difference was and they could give me no real answer. So what is the difference really? If I made 2 batches of APA one with the American and one with the British would there be that much of a difference?

I'm guessing it is either where it was grown, the variety of barley, or how it was kilned.

The British grain may be Marris Otter malt which is quite good. Has a little more fuller flavor and is a little darker in color. My LHBS shop told me the Marris Otter has more protiens so the beers may be more hazy. I think you would notice the difference in taste more dependent on the style and hop level of the beer. I would try it.
