New to Mead Brewing

Hey everyone,
I'm Luke, brand new to homebrewing, and about to start my first batch of mead. I've read The Compleat Meadmaker by Ken Schramm (fantastic by the way!) and am super excited to start this new adventure. If any of you have tips on how to keep my first brew from coming out tasting like rocket fuel, I'm all ears!

Welcome aboard!
I haven't made any mead, just lots of beer and a little cider. Buying a book is a good start, I suggest following well established recipes until you're familiar with the process and ingredients. Study and practice will yield good results. Keep us posted.
