Need help fixing a Corning PC353 stir plate

I have two of the Corning PC 353 stir plates. One of the speed controllers for the plates is going out and I need a replacement. The motor is a 115v 60cy .29a, 1550 rpm motor. The speed controller on this looks like a huge pot resistor.

Any idea where I can get a replacement for this? Would a light dimmer switch work, one of the non digital ones?
