SO I jumped in with two feet. First brew day today. 68* in Ohio in early March... couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Originally I was gonna use an AG Bell's Oberon Clone recipe I found on here.... but then decided I just wanna brew something of my own (and hope its good). If its a good beer... awesome... if not... I'll chalk it up to a learning experience!

Recipe (BIAB attempt) (I did use the recipe as a pretty good outline... changing just a few things): Brew-moment changes in bold

8lbs American 2-row
3lbs White Wheat
1lb Crystal 60
1.5oz total US Saaz (8.1%AA)
1oz German hallertau (4.3%AA)
Yeast: Wyeast 1010 American Wheat

Grains in at 157
60min rest at 150-152
Raise temp to 160 rest 15 minutes
Raise temp to 168
Grains out and squeeze/sparge

Boil 60 min
.75oz US Saaz (8.1%AA) 45min (original 30min)
Boiled 20 minutes then propane ran out WHOOPS. it had no heat for 15 minutes while I ran to the gas station to get a new tank
.5oz US Saaz (8.1%AA) 20min (original 15min)

Cool with IC

Ferment with Wyeast 1010

Dry Hop with:
.5oz US Saaz (8.1%AA)
1oz German Hallertau (4.3%AA)

then bottle!

According to Brewers Friend (assuming a 70%BH efficiency):
OG: 1.057
FG: 1.014
ABV: 5.71%
IBU: 18.51
SRM: 9.58

Thoughts?

I would increase the first hop addition to 0.75-1 oz and move it up to 60 minutes. But I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you stay the course. The gravity and color is a bit over the guidelines for an American Wheat but it'll taste great. ferment in the low 60's for a nice crisp an clean beer

Congrats on makin the jump! Best choice I made regarding my brews

Took the first gravity reading today.

At 64* it read 1.014... So according to the chart that came with my hydrometer that's about 1.016 actual gravity.

Dunked the beer thief a little too far down so my sample had lots of trub in it.

Pic 1: right out o the thief... Very cloudy
Pic 2: after two hours in the fridge-mini cold crash

I'll see what it looks like tomorrow. It'll be cloudy (it IS a wheat beer of sorts)

Threw in 1.75 oz of hops into the primary for my dry hopping!

1oz German Hallertau
.75 US Saaz

Bottled this tonight!

Definitely need to get an auto siphon... The racking cane is just a pain in the butt!
