So I'm going to be moving around 35 miles away within the next month or two. What are the rules of thumb for moving beer? I'm assuming that beer in primary fermentation would be bad, but what about beer that is carbonating or conditioning?

I would think the chance of an airlock getting knocked off, or just aeration would make fermenting beer a bad idea when moving. Otherwise, I think you'd be fine. Hot temps can reduce the beer's lifespan.

You are fine if its in the bottle or keg. I would not trust it in a carboy. I moved 800 miles in February with beer I bottle the week prior and they all turned out great.

I would think as long as the airlock doesn't come off and its not exposed to high temps for too long it would be fine. Wrap a blanket around it to keep sunlight out.
