Mash tun metal nut is corroded. Help?

I converted my own mash tun. I however just noticed that the lock nut has a greenish corrosion and am worried it will effect the beer. Should I replace it with something that won't do that or am I worrying for nothing?

As you can see, it is the only piece doing that. The problem is, that nut was hard to find as it is, let alone in another type of metal.

I can't see the pic. But if it's not stainless steel, it should be. Green corrosion says to me it's either copper or brass. Not good for sitting in liquids for extended periods unless it's treated as copper pipe and fittings are.
 
The green is likely verdigris.
Not something you want in anything you're going to consume internally.

So, yes, I'd replace that part...

[edit] Looking at that sad braid, I'd likely replace the whole assembly...
 
Like the other posters said, it's hard to tell from the picture.

What is the composition of the lock nut?
