What do you guys do with the little bit of mead that is left in the carboy before you bottle?

My first mead had been bulk aging for a year now and getting it to clear has taken forever. The bottom inch of the carboy is cloudy, no sediment, just cloudy. It has not changed in over a month. Will this continue to settle and compact more, or should I just bottle and leave this behind?

It kills me to loose it, especially since it had been over 6 months since I have tasted it. If waiting a little longer will help the cloudy layer compact more than I guess I will bite the bullet and leave it longer.

Thanks
Alex

If it has been that long then it may be as compact as you will get it in that carboy. A few times what I have done is bottle all the clear and put the rest in some clean empty two liter plastic bottles and throw them in the fridge. I always got a good bit more from the 2 liters.

I had the same thing happen to me. I didn't really worry about it because clarity is not a huge deal to me usually. You could use bentonite or some other clarify agent to clear it up. They work quickly and are effective. They are also cheap and can be found at any homebrew store. Hope that helps.
