Hey gang,

So I'm new at the whole yeast starter thing but have done it on my last few beers, while each time saving a little for the next brew. Well I just did a 5 gal dead ringer IPA and after 2 weeks in primary I pulled this from the bottom.

That's a 1 gal jug... It looks like yeast to me as its a milky white and looks similar to the other yeast I have in the fridge. But the amount is really throwing me off, about 1/3 of a gallon. I think I am over pitching but I've never seen this much yeast at the end of primary, not even close. I've never tried to reuse yeast but if this all yeast I will try to reuse it. If it is, I guess I would "wash" it correct? Thanks everyone.

THat is a lot of yeast, probably enough for 5 batches. Probably has some hoppy taste to it from the dead ringer.

I need to read more on yeast washing (I noticed a sticky here). But if I "wash" the yeast, would it still carry over some of the hop flavor do you think? Probably not a big deal anyway as I brew mostly IPAs so a little extra hop flavor wouldn't hurt it... I guess. Thanks,

Dion
