Hi all,

I'm looking for some suggestions/critisism/critique on the following recipe before brewing it tomorrow. This is my first attempt at creating my own recipe completely from scratch. Thanks.

5G Batch

13.5lbs - Pale Malt (American 2-Row)
2lbs - Chocolate Malt
1lb - Flaked Barley
1lb - Flaked Oats
0.75lbs - Caramunich III
0.5lbs - Crystal 20

1 oz Magnum for 90min
4 oz Cocoa Powder for 60min
1 oz Perle for 60min
0.2oz Fuggles at mash out

Wyeast London Ale III

Est. OG - 1.096
Est. IBU - 56
Color - 43.5
Est. ABV - 9.2%

Thanks again for any suggestions.

I'm NOT an imperial stout expert! but I think that having 2 pounds of chocolate malt is too much, and no roasted barley- that means no stout.

A big stout should have roasted barley, and some chocolate malt (up to .5 pound or 1 pound).

I've never used cocoa in a beer, so I can't comment on that.

Yup, I agree with Yooper. Too much chocolate and no RB. Try a lb of RB, and half a lb of Chocolate. If all else fails, look at the Kate the Great thread for direction on making a great RIS.

I obviously should have posted this before my trip to the LHBS an hour and a half away. I guess I'm making a porter then since I don't have any roasted barley on hand.
